Reluctantly Giving Zombies A Try - Dying Light

Image
I will be right up front, by and large, I hate zombie games. They usually turn out to be a excuse for a company to cheap out on the nonplayer character's (NPC) artificial intelligence (AI). That is why I was surprised how much I enjoy Dying Light. Dying Light did the - over done - zombie thing right. First there is the parkour system, simply superb. It adds a level of action to the game that keeps the excitement high, even if you are just traveling. The game keeps the challenge level growing with your level of skill. Zombies attack with varying speeds, strength, intelligence and reach. Some even use weapons. They are surprisingly good at catching you in a pincer movement. You learn to always watch your back, always. Use your mini-map, keep moving or gain a superior position. Getting on top of cars, trucks and buildings helps to thin out the most aggressive zombies from the herd. Then you can do clean up, but still keep moving. Circling is a good tactic with herds of slower zomb...

F.E.A.R. - First Encounter Assault Recon!

Image
FEAR is one of my all time favorite old style shooters. It is also a story heavy game that tells a good horror tale. With Halloween coming up in a month or so, it seems like a good choice. I may do a series on it, depicting all the intervals. But, it won't be a play through. It will be telling the FEAR story with action sequences that add to the story and excitement. This video concerns Intervals 01 and 02. The first is mainly story background and some time learning what your character can do. I stuck to the story elements and cut the orientation bits. In 02 you start to encounter the enemy and are trying to run down Paxton Fettle. This is where the fight starts. The game was put out in 2005 I think. So the AI's aren't brilliant, but they can be tricky and very aggressive. If you play on extreme difficulty, which I did, you take a lot of damage quick. So use good tactics and be ready for anything anytime. Here is the video description from YouTube: FEAR is a story ri...

Wildlands - Truck Depot Community Challenge - Bushwacker's Way

Image
Truck Depot Mission - My Bane I must have tried this mission a million times when trying to complete the campaign. Eventually, I just skipped it and took the big bad guy down. Then comes the community challenge: Truck Depot mission replay with no guns! Ouch. Well I had to give it a try. Again, after a half dozen tries or so, I found I could bash them on the head all day long without penalty. See, I kept getting caught on the way out usually. One time I had it completed and was jumping off the compound wall when it failed the mission on me. That was it. It was bushwhacking time! My idea was I would take out all the guards encountered on my way to the intell. That way my escape path should be pretty clear. I didn't take that for granted though. Still, I almost got caught when I thought one marker was a guy out in the street, but he was inside! That was a close one. Should have checked my mini-map I guess. Here is how it turned out: The video is 1080p60fps so full...

Tier 39-Unidad Level 4-Wildlands Battle Royale

Image
A  Free-Play  Fur-Ball! Mass charges of over a dozen Unidad troops at a time. Little Bird gun ships,  Blackhawk Gatling gun and rocket pod choppers. Cobra attack helicopters shot down so close they crush an allied rebel and nearly pin me to the tower with the nose.    What started out as an aerial raid on Koani Airfield quickly became a Tier 39, Unidad patrol level 4 - fur ball. A Gatling gun equipped Blackhawk helicopter flies down the throat of Koani Airfield's three SAM sites and runway. Flying low to avoid a SAM launch, and raking the airfield with Gatling gun fire. Forcing Santa Blanca to responds with two armed Blackhawks. A ground infiltration follows, initiated by two ~400m shots. One a head shot. A brutal take  down on a guard gets me in. Then I flub a shot which starts the fur ball. With the help of rebel allies, the four man team takes over the furthest tower. Defending it against all comers. Unidad ground troops attack in wave ...

Wildlands Network Station Assault And Hack - Under Two Minutes!

Image
Tactics For A High Speed Building Assault   A two man team takes down a network station and successfully hacks the network under two minutes total. The actual assault was about half that. The team used an explosive, simultaneous, two floor entry tactic to stun and split the defender's forces. C4 was positioned at a ground and second floor doors to the building. The C4 blew open both doors at the same time. Part of the ground floor was open all the way to the second floor's ceiling. So the ground floor assaulter threw in a flash-bang grenade while his partner sprinted up the outside stairs to the second floor entry. This should blind at least some of the enemy forces on both the ground and second floors, pinning them in place. Defenders on the first and second floors were then subdued by applied violence of action, flash-bangs and firepower. The firepower came in the form of two full auto shotguns - El Silencio and the SASG-12. Both assaulters entered the building at nea...

Wildlands: Death Squad Sniper's Nest

Image
Wildlands: Death Squad Sniper's Nest My goal with most of these game videos is to produce something that is reminiscent of a TV adventure show instead of just another game video. Or if it is a video series something like the old Saturday serials at the movie theater. This particular video fits that idea very well. The Ghost Recon team gets on the trail of a Unidad Spec Ops group called "Los Extranjeros" who have formed a death squad preying on civilians. In reality, Los Extranjeros, is a group of thugs who are using their military might to take over the drug trade after the fall of the Santa Blanca cartel from power. Follow the story as the Ghost Recon team comes upon the tragic result of Los Extranjeros depredation on a Bolivian village. The trail develops from there leading the Ghost Recon team to the death squad's hide out. The Ghost Recon team then inserts by parachute landing in a literal sniper's nest. The team finds themselves outnumbered 5 to 1 on t...

The Yeti - Bagging The Yeti On Your First Try - I was either on advanced or extreme, not sure which. I think it was extreme though. There was a big build up about the Yeti. Like it as going to be an, forgive me, "extreme" challenge. One reason I suppose - the Yeti will one-shot-kill you. I think though if you know and use the tactics needed. Outfit with gear that will reach out and touch him. And you have characterized your sniper rifle and scope combo so you know where the scope's hash marks will hit at what range, then you should be fine. The hardest part is finding the guy. He isn't a yeti, but the Santa Blanca top sniper. I looked and looked and admit I had to watch some videos to find out where he was eventually. The reason I couldn't locate him was that I was searching for a sniper from a helicopter. Well, the Yeti doesn't spawn until you find a very particular boulder and interact with it. Kinda spoils the whole search for the Yeti thing doesn...
