Comparison of All BC2 Shotguns
In our BC2 comparison, we have both pump and semi-auto designs to consider. Lets take a look at the semi-auto shotguns first. Keep in mind the Remington 870 “Wingmaster” is used as the yardstick for the purposes of this article. The big difference between our yardstick and the semi-autos is the damage rating. The semi-auto’s are down rated far enough to make them a two shot gun - per game kill. Since the rate of fire is fast enough it is not a problem. However, every time you shoot, to be effective, it will have to be a double tap. This chews through a magazine load quickly. So using the magazine extender option is a good idea, though you will be trading off the magnum load option. You may want to experiment with the two options to find which setup works best for you. The accuracy is down rated in the semi-autos for what reason I cannot fathom. However, it is so slight a difference as to be of no consequence.
I must confess, the NS 2000 is my favorite shotgun in BC2. The idea of a double barreled, pump shotgun is awesome. In real life, the barrel porting would be a necessity, otherwise this gun would kill at both ends! In the game this gun is usually a one shot stop. Although, I have had players run right through the double blast and shoot me. Makes one wonder about that player… Another nicety for the NS 2000 is that the reloads are fairly fast. Since the magazine is limited to four pairs of shells, reload is used often. I usually do tactical reloads when possible, i.e. reloading before the gun runs empty. It gave me a great round as this image shows Bushwacker's Stats for 2010 09 18
The Spas-12 is a gun I have only used a few times. The barrel is a little shorter than our yardstick’s, thus, the slightly lower damage rating. However, it performs well with a rate of fire equivalent to the Remington 870. Across the board, the accuracy rating for all the shotguns is nearly the same. I have shot at walls a few times to examine the buck shot spread. It appears the game uses a randomized spread, making each shot unique. However, the patterns may repeat with each magazine. The shot does not spread beyond the aiming circle on the screen, but the area taken in by the circle increases with distance. The net effect is that the shot spreads out over increasingly larger areas, as the range grows. I try to limit my shots to shorter distances.
The Remington 870 is a sentimental favorite of mine, having owned the real item at one time. It was an excellent shotgun, dead reliable with good handling qualities. In BC2 the 870 out powers all the shotguns except the NS 2000. It is a small difference in damage between the two. The 870’s rate of fire is equivalent with the Spas but faster than the NS 2000. Of course the semi-autos are quicker. The accuracy of all the pump shotguns are the same and a little better than the semi-autos. All in all, if I were to settle on one shotgun, it would be the Remington 870.
