RPG Town Take Down - Far Cry 3

Image
RPG's galore! While attacking the Bridge Control Outpost I was assailed by an entire squad of RPG grenadiers. Since my purpose was to get into as much random trouble as possible, this was fine by me. It got a bit crazy when I realized I was just barely out of range of the RPG's. So began a game of RPG dodge ball! I love Far Cry 3. Personally, I think it the best of the series. The story is crazy - as is Voss. The play is dynamic. But Far Cry 3 just seems to do wandering around, looking for random opportunities to make trouble, better than any of the series. Guess that is why I still enjoy playing the game so much. This time around it is set at it's hardest level and is on outpost playback mode. I call this mess'n with the bots. What does that mean? When you play a game a lot you begin to get a feel for what the nonplayer character (NPC) artificial intelligence (AI) can and cannot do. You also get a feel for limitations of the weapons. This helps win the campai...

Steal A Chopper - Dodge A SAM - Fly A Tight Canyon Canyon Flight Mission   To deliver a Unidad supply helicopter to the rebels the Wildlands team must brave a canyon which narrows to two rotor diameters. Worse, it narrows in a tight, horseshoe curve. Worse yet, the chopper must first elude a SAM launch as it dives for the canyon. Striving to get below the canyon rim and break the site's radar lock - skin of the teeth... Then stay below the canyon rim to avoid the many other SAM sites along the route. Flying in classic mode the Blackhawk is sluggish, especially in tight places. Before reaching the challenging horseshoe the helo must fly under a bridge while dodging the old bridge's ruins. There are places where the wheels or the rotor tips skim literal inches from disaster. This area on the map, Media Luna, is nearly impossible to fly over due to the numerous anti-air installations manned by Unidad. The only way to fly at all in Media Luna is to fly at extreme altitude ...

Shadow Warrior 2 Takes Me Back 1992 - Wolfenstein 3D, first 'almost' 3D game environment. 1993 - DOOM takes PC gamers by storm! 1996 - Quake takes multiplayer seriously as a main game mode in the 3D First Person Shooter (FPS) game. 1997 - The original Shadow Warrior comes out.  I remember them all. Played them all. See I have been gaming since the, get this, IBM PC jr came along. For all the silly name, it wasn't a bad machine for the time. Back then all games were things like King's Quest, Need For Speed, and such. Later, as hardware permitted, flying games came along like ACES of Europe, ACES of the Pacific. All that time I was wishing hard for what later became known as the FPS game. So, when Wolfenstein 3D, DOOM, and Duke Nukem 3D came along I was ecstatic. In the Shadow Warrior reboots of Shadow Warrior and Shadow Warrior 2 you find that late 90's style of FPS play. No strategy, not even much in the way of tactics like a modern military ...

F.E.A.R. Extraction Point - Alma Loose On The World

Image
*SPOILERS* In FEAR Extraction Point, Alma has been released from the "vault". The vault, contained in the Origin Facility, was a fortified, underground structure meant to contain her destructive psychic forces. Some would say apocalyptic forces. Harlin Wade, in a fit of conscience, has sets Alma Wade free at the end of FEAR. Pointman has set the reactor within the facility to over load and explode attempting to stop Alma. The Origin Facility reactor explodes in a nuclear-like explosion. The explosion devastates that part of the city which was already empty of people. Alma's doing apparently. Keep in mind Alma has had no life signs, within containment, for years. Paxton Fettle was killed by Pointman toward the end of FEAR. But Fettle, in a 'vision' to Pointman says, "I see cities turned to dust." Alma's and Fettle's retribution for her treatment in life. This is both the end of FEAR and the beginning of FEAR Extraction Point. Pointman, and hi...

Reluctantly Giving Zombies A Try - Dying Light

Image
I will be right up front, by and large, I hate zombie games. They usually turn out to be a excuse for a company to cheap out on the nonplayer character's (NPC) artificial intelligence (AI). That is why I was surprised how much I enjoy Dying Light. Dying Light did the - over done - zombie thing right. First there is the parkour system, simply superb. It adds a level of action to the game that keeps the excitement high, even if you are just traveling. The game keeps the challenge level growing with your level of skill. Zombies attack with varying speeds, strength, intelligence and reach. Some even use weapons. They are surprisingly good at catching you in a pincer movement. You learn to always watch your back, always. Use your mini-map, keep moving or gain a superior position. Getting on top of cars, trucks and buildings helps to thin out the most aggressive zombies from the herd. Then you can do clean up, but still keep moving. Circling is a good tactic with herds of slower zomb...

F.E.A.R. - First Encounter Assault Recon!

Image
FEAR is one of my all time favorite old style shooters. It is also a story heavy game that tells a good horror tale. With Halloween coming up in a month or so, it seems like a good choice. I may do a series on it, depicting all the intervals. But, it won't be a play through. It will be telling the FEAR story with action sequences that add to the story and excitement. This video concerns Intervals 01 and 02. The first is mainly story background and some time learning what your character can do. I stuck to the story elements and cut the orientation bits. In 02 you start to encounter the enemy and are trying to run down Paxton Fettle. This is where the fight starts. The game was put out in 2005 I think. So the AI's aren't brilliant, but they can be tricky and very aggressive. If you play on extreme difficulty, which I did, you take a lot of damage quick. So use good tactics and be ready for anything anytime. Here is the video description from YouTube: FEAR is a story ri...

Wildlands - Truck Depot Community Challenge - Bushwacker's Way

Image
Truck Depot Mission - My Bane I must have tried this mission a million times when trying to complete the campaign. Eventually, I just skipped it and took the big bad guy down. Then comes the community challenge: Truck Depot mission replay with no guns! Ouch. Well I had to give it a try. Again, after a half dozen tries or so, I found I could bash them on the head all day long without penalty. See, I kept getting caught on the way out usually. One time I had it completed and was jumping off the compound wall when it failed the mission on me. That was it. It was bushwhacking time! My idea was I would take out all the guards encountered on my way to the intell. That way my escape path should be pretty clear. I didn't take that for granted though. Still, I almost got caught when I thought one marker was a guy out in the street, but he was inside! That was a close one. Should have checked my mini-map I guess. Here is how it turned out: The video is 1080p60fps so full...
